Everybody has a different learning style.
This app has many different functions, so you will find the style that suits you.
You have decided to learn a foreign language.
As with all the languages in the world, sometimes there are fundamental differences in expressing something.
Some languages use certain words in certain cases that you wouldn't use in your language if the text was translated word for word.
It means that a lot of words mean many different things in another language, or some of them cannot be translated at all, because the other language does not use that expression in the same context.
Therefore, you cannot be strict with a translation.
After all, we use words to express notions and feelings, or to describe something. These basic things in our lives are the same for every human being in the whole world.
Some languages have prefixes or suffixes, some don't have auxiliary verbs, some use masculine and feminine articles for nouns, the word order in sentences can be completely different, but they all serve the same purpose, they express what people think.
As long as the translation means that same notion or feeling, or describes the same thing, even though the words we use have nothing to do with the words we used in the foreign text, the translation has fulfilled its purpose.
In the first two lessons we provide a word-for-word translation of every sentence. They are enclosed in brackets.
It will help you go through an English sentence word by word to understand how it is structured and what the individual words mean.
Sometimes, the translation might not be grammatically correct in your language. Punctuation might be missing somewhere. It is not because we don't know how it should be, it is for you to learn the English way of saying things.
This program doesn't follow a kindergarten style education method. It means that the first few lessons might prove a bit difficult at first glance. Just try to focus on the given subject that we are learning about. You don't have to understand every word and grammatical rule in the explaining sentences. You will get there later. On the other hand, when you go back to the beginning of the lessons to repeat the whole reading again (we hope that you will do that a few times), you will learn something from them.
You will need a dictionary. It can be either a printed bilingual one, or you can use a dictionary app.
In the English sentences, by keeping your finger on a given word, you can highlight, choose and copy words that enables you to easily use a dictionary app, or a translator website of your choice.
You can also create your own dictionary that helps you remember the tricky words.
By clicking on an English sentence, a small window comes up displaying the chosen English sentence.
This window has a function to pronounce the given English sentence in either of the accents you choose.
You can also record and play back your own voice. It helps you improve your pronunciation.
In the bottom of the screen you have the "Hide" buttons. They hide either the English sentences, or the translations.
By hiding the English sentences, you can test your knowledge by trying to translate the sentences displayed in your language back to English. If you want to check whether your translation is correct, or you are stuck and need a bit of help, you just touch the sentence and the given English sentence will be displayed in the bottom of the screen. You might want to use this option after you have completed every lesson and you are revisiting them from the beginning. That is when your knowledge will allow you to try it.
You will also have test sections in the lessons. Try to translate them. If you cheat and just keep clicking on the sentences to show the answers, you will learn nothing. First, try to use what you have learnt. Second, use a dictionary. If none of these steps can help you, in that case you can check the answer. This way you will learn a lot more.
In some cases we will not display the English version of a long sentence or paragraph that explains something, because it might be overwhelming for you. If you are interested in the English version of them, you can touch the sentence in your language and the English version will be displayed.
You might want to hide all sentences in your language in the whole lesson when you are listening to the English-only audio of the whole lesson.
By touching the headphones icon, you can open a small player window in the bottom of the lesson screen that plays the whole text of the given lesson in your chosen accent.
If you touch the close icon, the window collapses, but the player keeps playing until you stop it either by touching the same accent button that started the playback, or you exit the lesson by using the back button on your device.
The player can play in the background even when the screen is locked, unless it is stopped by either of the described methods. It allows you to listen to the lessons while you are travelling, doing something that doesn't require too much attention, etc.
You will need to use the Irregular Verbs Table quite often. The provided button opens it and the device's back button takes you back to your previous screen.
You can have the irregular verbs pronounced by touching on them.
When you have completed all the lessons, we would recommend that you re-read everything again from the beginning. Believe me, you will learn something new every time you re-read the lessons.
Don't forget that if the given explanation and it's example sentences are not enough for you to fully understand a subject, you can always do your own research on that subject. The main thing is that you know what to look for and by doing the extra research, you are still learning.
We all hope that you will enjoy this program and that we could make learning easier for you.
